Sharing a Thanksgiving Prayer/Meditation of Gratitude: Ask for Something Greater. Matthew 7:7 heralds a beautiful message: "Ask and keep on asking, and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking, and you will find; knock and keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you."

This week's question: "What if your prayers are too small for the life you’re meant to live?" In this focused, six-minute guided meditation, we slow down, breathe, and move from timid requests to bold, honest asking rooted in God’s generosity. We open with a calm invitation to welcome God into the room, then step straight into the questions we often avoid:

  • Am I afraid of being disappointed?
  • Do I feel unworthy?
  • Do I doubt that God will help?

Naming these barriers out loud becomes the first act of courage.

SPEAKER_00:

Ask for something greater. Welcome to this beautiful meditative exercise. I welcome you here and I invite you to sit and dwell and abide and allow me to read this beautiful prayer and meditative exercise over you as I do. Invite God into your heart, into your space, and receive this beautiful gift that He has for you. Are you ready? Ask for something greater. Great and mighty God, why do I ask for a small miracle when you can do so much more? Why do I place limits and boundaries on your capacity to bless? Am I afraid of being disappointed? Do I think I am unworthy? Do I doubt that you will help me? Do I have the wrong idea about your love or power? Right now, right here, I welcome you into all of my whys, all of my questions, all of my fears. Right now I wholeheartedly seek the courage to ask you for something greater. Right now I open my heart and hands, ready to embrace your healing words. You tell me to ask, seek, and knock. So I ask for something greater. You tell me to embrace tests and hardships, so I ask for greater patience and strength and tenacity and resilience, so that my faith will blossom under the pressure. You tell me that you are far greater than he who is in this world. So I believe that you are far greater and will help me overcome. You tell me that if I believe in you, I will do even greater works than you. So I lay aside doubt and fear and place my trust in you. You tell me that you are able to do far more abundantly than I can ask or think. So today, I let go of any limitations or boundaries or small thinking that is keeping me from your great plan for my life. You tell me that you have blessed me with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. So I put away unhealthy beliefs, behaviors, and bad attitudes that keep me bound in discouragement, impoverishment, or self-pity. You tell me I am loved with an everlasting love and that you have drawn me to you with unfailing kindness. So I rest in the fact that you actually desire more from me than I do for myself. You tell me I am stronger than I think and wiser than I know. So I choose to wake up every single day of the rest of my life believing what you say about me. I will grow stronger every single day of my life. Amen. He wants to give you more, more joy, more strength, more courage, more financial prosperity, more emotional health, more mental stability. You fill in your blank. God is here. And he wants to bless your entire sphere of influence. Ask for something greater. And always remember that you, my friend, have value, worth and dignity.
